The "Davidka", Israeli 1947 homemade mortar used in Independence war (1947-1949) in Safed and Jerusalem. The "Davidka" bombs were way more loud than hamful, but at those times you took what you had.

The "Davidka" ("Little David") was named for its inventor, David Leibowitch, with a hint to the biblical battle of David and Goliath.

The greatest victory attributed to the "Davidka" was the liberation of the Citadel, a strongpoint in the center of Safed, on the night of May 1948.

Six Davidkas were manufactured all together, two were given to each of the Palmach's three brigades (Harel, Yiftach, and HaNegev).

There are three Davidka's monumetns in Israel, in Safed, Jerusalem and Tiberias.
