"Hegemonic Ideology" and 60 Indicators

Yesterday I talked about "Hegemonic Ideology" and 60 Indicators.

"Hegemonic Ideology" is an ideology that appears to the people who live it as if it was the objective reality itself. To understand this sentence, we should break down the term:

"Ideology" is a set of beliefs or principles, especially one on which a political system, party or organization is based.

The term "Hegemony" has a short and sharp meaning: Control, Supremacy.

The best example to explain "Hegemonic Ideology" is: *Democracy*.

To a person born into a democratic country, democracy seems self-evident, as if it was the reality itself, as if it was the objective truth.

A person who lives in a democratic country does not think of democracy as an ideology.

A person who lives in a democratic country does think of democracy as the reality itself.

Democracy is not dichotomous, meaning: democracy is not "yes or no", is not "there is or there isn't". Democracy is on a continuum, on a scale, on the "Democracy Indicator" indicating the degree of the democracy in the country.

The Democracy Index (Economist Intelligence Unit) compiles the "Democracy Indicator" using 60 different Indicators.

Each Indicator, out of the 60 different indicators, represents a different index. All 60 different indicators together make up the "Democracy Indicator" of that country. Among the 60 different Indicators one can find:

- The extent to which the government raises new risks and threats as an excuse to restrict civil liberties.

- Is there significant discrimination based on people's race, color or religious beliefs.

- The degree of personal security enjoyed the citizens experience

- The degree of independence of the judicial system from the influence of the government.

And 56 other indicators.

Democracy works on 2 levels: it is both the tool and the goal.

Democracy as a goal: allows the citizens of that country to live a life according to their personal values and beliefs. A life of freedom and justice.

Democracy as a tool: Democracy enables prosperity, better health, better education, a more diverse and richer leisure life. Democracy in its essence does not tolerate corruption, it promotes professional decision-making and management of public systems in the most professional and benevolent way for all citizens.

The more the 60 indicators point to a higher degree of democracy, the more citizens, and more groups in society will benefit prosperity, welfare, health, education and personal security.
